Gemena is a city in the northwestern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the Equatorial Sud-Ubangi province – one of the poorest in the country.
The concept of the university is being created as a response to the huge gaps in educational opportunities for high school graduates who, due to the lack of alternatives, continue their education at the Higher Pedagogical Institute or the Higher Institute of Medical Technology. The planned university is to have 4 faculties: the Faculty of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Faculty of New Technologies and Management, the Faculty of Health and Public Hygiene, the Faculty of Theology and Social Transformation. They are supported by media library buildings, a sports complex, catering and social services. The university buildings are accompanied by a student campus organized around a green sports park. Within its area there are student dormitories as well as professors' residences and a hotel for guest lecturers.
