The location of Zagłębiowski Sports Park in Środula Park, a place with a clear and defined natural and cultural context, imposes the need to use space shaping measures that fit the planned layout without degrading this context. The location of the area on a clear slope, in the vicinity of a hill (ski slope) forced us to use appropriate solutions resulting from both our feelings and understanding of this space.
The basic compositional decision was therefore to design the complex in a possibly modest way so that the facilities with significant cubic requirements would not dominate the surroundings. We were helped by the terrain in the form of a slope and local excavations, which we used to incorporate the stadium body so that it was as low as possible, and a hill, which became the closing frontage of the planned square, dedicated to sports events. The place we chose for the square - the center of the layout, is located in the elevation of the terrain. We used it as the basic level, the location of the main entrances and access to the stands in each of the designed facilities. The center of sports events, i.e. the grass, the pitch and the ice rink are located below the level of the main entrances, they are in a kind of depression. This solution corresponds to the natural bottoms of the terrain. An additional advantage of the applied solution is the possibility of reducing the height of the buildings and in combination with the use of flat roofs we can talk about facilities in the park and this is how we would like to see them. The elevations of the buildings have been diversified by opening/closing resulting from the function of the individual facilities and the use of various colors. However, our intention is to move in shades of white, gray and graphite, so that the buildings harmonize with the surroundings regardless of the season. The only color accents should remain the club colors, treated as elements of the visual identification system.
