The entire composition was based on 2 axes. The first is the viewing axis, marked by the current Otaniamentie Street with the culminating point in the form of the Auditorium of the former main building. The second axis was designated as a communication axis. Its course is parallel to the course of the library building and connects the space of the planned central square with the future open area along Otaniamentie Street.
The basic elements of the project were placed on the axes thus designated.
The area covered by the competition is a very demanding space, both in terms of urban planning and architecture. In formulating the competition response, we tried to meet the high requirements set by the organizers and the vicinity of works of world architecture created by excellent architects. We put respect for the surroundings and architectural heritage on an equal footing with the requirements of uniqueness and innovation of the entire complex. The final effect of our considerations is a comprehensive project consisting of the following elements: Main building, two-storey central square, Media Center Lume building. This project integrally complements the development of Aalto University.
